“You found me in a constellation.”

4.5/5 Stars

*cue the ugly tears* THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING Y’ALL. It owns a piece of my soul. I honestly haven’t read a book this good in such a long time (since the Black Witch lolol) I bought it Friday and started it Saturday morning, then Saturday night comes around and I was done. I binged the whole book in about two sittings and I regret nothing. This was so amazing and the most nerdy thing I’ve ever read. It was so NERDY LIKE HOW DOES ONE ACHIEVE SUCH AMAZING NERDINESS? This should honestly be every bookworms personal favorite because so many of us could relate to the characters in this book. BUT anyways, I’ll ramble on forever about the amazingness of this book so lets just get into the review!

Plot:

We have our main character, extra nerdy, Eliza Mirk. And Eliza is your typical people fearing, outside hating, introverted teenager. (okay I know not everyone is like that, obviously, but I relate okay.) She is also the creator of the internet famous web-comic, Monstrous Sea. She is crazily famous online and is making a living off of her amazing skills. And Monstrous Sea has a gigantic following. So naturally, someone will meet her that loves her works but she wont tell “Said Person” that she is the creator of Monstrous Sea. She doesn’t like telling anyone, family excluded, that she is LadyConstellation, mother of the webcomic. SO homegirl plays this guy (said person) the whole time into thinking she’s just another fan of Monstrous Sea. WHICH is totally wrong but she doesn’t him to fall at her feet and worship her either, she legit thought he would cry if he knew who she was. So yeah this is a geeky love story and it’s everything perfect.

So Much Love:

I loved so many things about this book. I loved that we have a realistic main character who doesn’t seem to be so worried about her looks and how well she gets along socially. She is essentially a hermit, and I relate SO HARD. She loves her online friends (me), she hides away on her online forums (not me necessarily but me with Goodreads), she has terrible social skills (me.) Honestly, we’re the same person except she draws exceptionally well, and yeah I dont LOLOL but anyways, I also love the art in this book. It tells the story of Eliza but it also tells the story of the webcomic she created, which was super awesome! Even the relationship was 10/10 because it was a slow burn and agh it killed me. Honestly, this whole book just wrecked me. ALSO, there is good representation of depression and anxiety and the author got that on point. I don’t know if this is an OwnVoices novel, but it definitely reads like the author knows whats she talking about. The writing flowed along and everything was amazing, and i’m just rambling so i’ll stop here.

Quotes:

( pg. 157 ) “You found me in a constellation.”

( pg. 166 ) “There are monsters out in the world, but usually the worst monsters live inside us.”

( pg. 322 ) “Broken people don’t hide from their monsters. Broken people let themselves be eaten.”

( pg. 338 ) “We ascribe value to the we care most about, but sometimes we don’t stop long enough to take a look at the bigger picture.”

( pg. 360 ) “Like life, what gives a story it’s meaning is the fact that it ends. Our stories have lives of their own – and it’s up to us to make them mean something.”

( pg. 382 ) “They’re not monsters. They’re people. We greet each other, and they’re polite, and they want to know how it feels to be me. ‘A lot better than it used to,’ I say. I think this will be okay. I think it will be strange, and probably scary, and I think there will still be times where I think I am the worst person on the planet. But I think I will also love myself, and what I’ve made, and I’ll know without doubt that those two things are separate.”

Now there’s really only one reason this wasn’t a five star, because it mirrored so much of The Fault in our Stars. Honestly, it could have been sold as a Fault in our Stars retelling because they were that similar. But overall it was an amazing book and I’ll be rereading it A LOT. If you’ve read it, then I would love to know what you thought of it! And if you haven’t then oml please go read it. It is SO worth it!

Hope you all have a great start of your week and happy reading!
