Hello friends! I know I am … a bit late on doing this tag as it’s already July, but it looks fun and thank you, Steph from @TheSecretReader for tagging me in this in!
~ Best Book You’ve Read In 2019 So Far ~
Red White and Royal Blue
by Casey McQuiston
This book, if I was to sum it up shortly, features the First Son of America and the Prince of Wales on their humor-filled journey of love. I highly doubt I will read a book this year that tops this for me, so you’ll definitely be hearing about this one a ton for the remainder of the year.
~ Best Sequel You’ve Read so Far ~
~ A Clash of Kings ~
by George R. R. Martin
Now, this is difficult because I’ve only read two sequels all year. The year has been filled with stand alones and first books in a series. And I would like to say the Wicked King was the best sequel but I read The Wicked King last year so I’ll just leave it here as an honorary mention for being published this year. But A Clash of Kings was the perfect sequel and I couldn’t have been happier with it!
~ New Release You Haven’t Read but Want To ~
I have quite a few of these, to be honest, but just alone in fantasy I want to read:
We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal
Bloodwitch by Susan Dennard
Descendant of the Cran by Joan He
~ Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of the Year ~
I have a few of these as well but I am most looking forward to Queen of Nothing by Holly Black and Rage by Cora Carmack!
~ The Biggest Disappointment of 2019 ~
Ha okay so for this one I have TWO. One is a 2019 release and the other is a 2020 release that I was lucky enough to get my hands on.
The first one is King of Scars by Leigh Bardugo. This book was so long and boring and just YIKES, I’ve never rated a Leigh Bardugo book so low, and by low I mean three stars. The best part to come out of this book is I got mine signed.
And the second one is A Heart so Fierce and Broken by Brigid Kemmerer. This had a great plot line but a really bad execution and I am very sad about that because A Curse so Dark and Lonely is one of my favorite books of 2019.
~ The Biggest Surprise of 2019 ~
Sorcery of Thorns
by Margaret Rogerson
This one just BLEW me out of the water. I did not like her first book, An Enchantment of Ravens, but I completely love this so much. It’s incredibly unique and fun and just OOF such a wonderful new fantasy book.
~ Favorite New Author ~
K. Ancrum
I read her first novel The Wicker King at the beginning of the year and completely loved it, and then her second novel The Weight of the Stars came out this year and I love that one even more. Her writing is so beautiful and her stories are magical in a way that I never want to leave them. I hope she writes books forever.
The Weight of the Stars Review
~ Newest Fictional Crush ~
Grey from A Curse so Dark and Lonely. That is all. He is, my mans.
Oh, and also Sebastian from A Lesson in Thorns, I love him so much.
~ Newest Favorite Character ~
Ahh, this is super hard, but I’m going to say it’s Alex Claremont-Diaz and Prince Henry from Red, White and Royal Blue. I love them both so so much and can’t pick between the two of them.
~ A Book that Made You Happy ~
The Red Scrolls of Magic
by Cassandra Clare and Wesley Chu
This book made me feel so many different emotions but most of the time I was happy. I have been waiting for this book for so long that there wasn’t a time when I wasn’t excited to be reading it.
~ Book That Made You Cry ~
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
by Taylor Jenkins Reid
I blew through this in one day and by the time I hit the last couple of chapters the tears were flowing a lot. This is such a beautiful story that I wish everyone would read it just once.
~ Books I Have to Read by The End of the Year ~
I’m going to limit this to five because honestly, it could be a lot more.
- Reverie by Ryan La Sala
- I Wish You All the Best by Mason Deaver
- Godsgrave by Jay Kristoff
- Heartsong by TJ Klune
- Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo
I feel like this helped me prioritize what I want and need to read for the rest of the year, so thank you Tag for helping me fix up my TBR.
Pretty much EVERYONE I know has done this already so I’m tagging one friend:
I hope y’all have a great day and Happy Reading!
~ Sol
