Hello everyone! I am not dead! Lol. But I have fully decided to commit to blogging again beginning in February so I decided to hop on this Blog Tour Train for Empress of a Thousand Skies! There are a quite a few blogs who are along for this Blog Tour, and each one of us is representing Empress of a Thousand Skies, before the sequel – Blood of a Thousand Stars – comes out. So this post is going to be a review on Empress, and I’m currently reading Blood of a Thousand Stars, which so far is great!
This book was a lot different than expected. I don’t know if I was expecting a book set in our world, where characters traveled through our solar system, or what I even expected but this book surpassed what I expected! The world in Empress of a Thousand Skies is wonderfully set up and so are the characters! This book starts off with our main character, Rhionnan – or Rhee for short – who is the princess of a planet of the planet Kalu. Rhee has had a very very difficult life, her parents and sister were killed in a freak accident when she was the age of six, and as she is approaching her crowning on her sixteenth birthday, literally everything crumbles apart. Her plans of becoming the Empress of Kalu are immediately changed as “alliances” turn out to be horrible people and literally nothing is what she expects. Now this book does end up having two main characters, Rhee is off dealing with her troubles of trying to regain her crown while our other main character, Alyosha, is off being framed for a murder that he never committed. Aly is a celebrity of sorts though because he is a Reality TV Show superstar and now he is on the run because everyone wants him in jail for the supposed assassination of Rhee. It’s a lot of plot to go through and the book takes a lot of turns and just … it had a good start let’s go with that.
The plot is the main reason why I couldn’t give this full stars and is what kind of killed me during the middle of this book. As I said already, it had a wonderful start and I couldn’t stop reading but once the middle hit, I was bored and when I thought it was going to pick up, it never did. That is, until the end of the book. There’s a big shock hitter and once it hit me, I just had to put the book down because I was so surprised! This big shocker saved the book for me and has had me wanting book two for a long time now.
Even though I had a rough time through the middle of the book, I have to give props to Rhoda for creating this whole new world that is awesome. It is so diverse and different and I loved the fact that it had such a diverse cast and that it was a unique storyline. I cannot wait to finish Blood of a Thousand Stars, to see what Rhoda has in store for this series and world!
If you haven’t picked up this book yet, I would say definitely give it a shot and then head on over to Blood of a Thousand Stars to continue with Rhee and Aly!
I do want to thank Penguin Team for sending me a copy of Empress of a Thousand Skies as well as an ARC of Blood of a Thousand Stars!
I hope y’all have a great day and happy reading!
